New Orleans DIY Rockstar Wedding

Crystal and Noel’s wedding is where traditional meets unconventional. A Catholic couple holding their ceremony at a church, sure. But transforming a privately owned warehouse space into a rock ‘n’ roll reception venue? Now that is something you don’t see every day! We loved shooting this New Orleans DIY Rockstar Wedding!

Crystal’s family is from Chicago, and she was raised there before moving to Florida at age 19. She is in the insurance industry, and has met most of her friends through work. She was attending a conference for work in Montana when she met Noel– he was attending the same event, coming from Louisiana. According to Noel, Crystal “picked him up in the bar,” but Crystal claims this is “not true!” Noel is from Louisiana, as is his family. He’s been in the insurance business since he was in high school. For a while, Crystal and Noel tried to make long distance work. Crystal knew if the relationship was going to last, she’d need to make the leap from Florida to Louisiana. She moved to Louisiana in November of 2014, and she says she has absolutely no regrets. She says she went from “city living to hog hunting in the Venice marsh.” Noel proposes to Crystal on New Year’s Eve of 2017. They were so excited to bring their friends and family together for a wonderful celebration—and that is exactly how we at Diaz Nola view weddings—Celebrations!

They had their Ceremony at St. Dominick’s Church on Harrison Avenue, an inwardly traditional church with an outwardly sleek modern finish. But the fun truly began at the reception— Crystal and Noel are friends with the owner of a parking garage on Magazine street. They completely transformed the space, and made it their own. With some awesome lighting, décor, and of course the killer house band for the night, Bag of Donuts, the spot was one of a kind. We had friends in the industry asking us where we shot this wedding! At Diaz Nola, we love when our clients shake things up, and make things their own. We were stoked to capture our bride and groom in such a wonderfully unique space, created by them, for them.
