Katelyn was a native of Chalmette before Katrina where she finished school in Houma. Alana is from Baton Rouge. Both went to Hammond for college which is where they met. Their story feels pulled from a fairy tale which is perfect as the two worked at a bookstore for many years. For Katelyn, it was love at first sight and after very little convincing Alana was feeling the same way. The two were inseparable.
Their engagement happened after dating for four years on Valentine’s Day. But, the most important thing for them was to wait until LGBT weddings were legal in the state of Louisiana. The couple couldn’t think of a better day to get married than on their ten-year anniversary. The brides themselves said it best, “On May 20, 2008 we decided that our relationship was worth taking a chance on and on May 20, 2018 we’re officially sealing the deal!” While the planning was underway for their big day, the couple saw many different venues. They decided the perfect place to say “I do” was the Abita Brewery (what a great and unique location!). On the day of the wedding, the two brides and the bridal party were getting ready at De la Bleau bed & breakfast.
After an emotional first look the two were ready to walk down the aisle. The ceremony took place outside at the Abita Brewery with the reception following. Throughout were little literary details that paid homage to their bookstore beginnings.
Toasts to the future and beer were in abundant supply of course. The couple had desserts in surplus with a cookie and milk bar, cupcakes, and of course the cake! After cake cutting and dancing with family and friends, the two New Orleans brides were sent off with sparklers. Katelyn and Alana’s wedding was a unique and beautiful blending of tradition with new ideas and we are so happy that these New Orleans Brides chose Diaz Nola Photography to capture this beautiful Brewery Wedding. We wish these two many years of happiness!
