What a great story this surprise New Orleans dinner proposal shoot became. It started when Melanie reached out to us, and asked if we’d help capture her surprise proposal over a nice dinner at Restaurant August in New Orleans. All she told us was that the restaurant knew, and would be coming out with a dessert plate that said, “Will you marry me?” Not only would this shape up to be a great, touching surprise proposal, but we also loved the idea of showing a unique and beautiful scenario in which the woman proposed to the man. The way we see it, anybody can propose to anybody! We’d rather you put extra special thought into how the proposal will go down instead of worrying about antiquated traditions.
This left us with an interesting challenge… How do we capture this moment without ruining the surprise? This is where things got fun. My partner Cody and I showed up to the restaurant–just another date night. We were seated across from Melanie and Wayne her soon to be fiancé with a good view of the couple. The restaurant was so kind to help us see this through. When the dessert was brought out, we’d capture the moment.
But throughout the night, prior to the proposal, we needed to find a way to calibrate our equipment to the space. So Cody and I began snapping photos of each other. We found out later that Wayne told Melanie he thought we were overexcited tourists. He said we were so busy taking selfies, we weren’t even enjoying our dinner experience! Little did he know, we were trying to capture his dinner experience! Following the dessert being brought out, we joined the couple for some drinks, and spent the rest of the night happy (and relieved!) that we captured this special moment for Melanie and Wayne.
